La Biblioteca di Archeologia dell’Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia da molti decenni costituisce per docenti, studiosi e studenti di Università e altre istituzioni italiane ed estere un punto di riferimento di rilevanza internazionale. L’eccezionalità della Biblioteca è stata riconosciuta sin dal 1997 anche dal Ministero dell’Università, che da allora eroga annualmente un finanziamento finalizzato all’aggiornamento del patrimonio librario. Una opinabile visione del sistema bibliotecario da parte dell’Ateneo rischia ora di mettere in forse la regolarità e la consistenza del contributo ministeriale, con conseguenze per il futuro della Biblioteca facilmente immaginabili. I docenti di Archeologia e di area antichistica dell’Università di Venezia auspicano vivamente che l’Ateneo riconosca concretamente il ruolo e il prestigio della Biblioteca garantendo che sia confermata la dotazione annuale per l’acquisto di libri e riviste.

The Library of Archaeology at the University Ca' Foscari of Venice has been, for many decades, a landmark of international importance for lecturers, teachers, scholars and students at its own university as well as those from other Italian and foreign universities and institutions. The uniqueness of the Library has been recognized by the Italian Ministry of University since 1997; since then, it has received annual funding to purchase new books, journals, and reviews. A questionable evaluation of the library system by the University of Venice administration is now threatening to jeopardize the regularity and consistency of the ministerial contribution with consequences that threaten the future of the library. The professors of Archeology and Classics at the University of Venice and of other universities and cultural institutions, both in Italy and abroad, strongly urge that the University acknowledge and recognize the significant role and prestige of the Library of Archaeology and, therefore, confirm its support for the annual budget for the purchase of books, journals, and reviews.
